Wood and Frate have continued their collaboration, along with classically trained cellist Tara Hanish, also a member of one of the area’s hottest new bands; Seafair, the Akron Symphony, and the chamber ensemble Azalea String Quartet.
The three of them, as the Doug Wood Trio, have released Cellocentric, a ten-track instrumental album that gives each of the talented players room to shine while deftly blending their instruments into a well-balanced ensemble; mixing the styles of classical, rock, folk, pop, and new age. Along with originals, they put their own spin on the Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood,” re-interpret George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” as “While My Cello Gently Weeps,” and even the Spider-Man theme. They’ll be celebrating the new CD by giving the tunes a live airing at Brothers Lounge. Fri 1/31 @ 8PM
