Call for Authors: Larchmere Festival 4.2 10AM—5PM

Loganberry Books (13015 Larchmere Boulevard in Shaker Heights) is seeking authors to participate in its Author Alley event as part of the annual Larchmere Festival on July 2nd from noon – 4PM (the festival itself runs from 10AM – 5PM).

The good folks at Art House Inc. will be in charge of entertaining, educational and artistic activities for the little folks. Mask making and mural drawing will part of the activities, right on location where the real mural will be installed in September. (Hours: Noon to 4PM.)

Pedaling Art @ Wall Eye Gallery 5.20 6—10PM

Wall Eye Gallery presents Pedaling Art, a celebration of bicycle culture through art and design, May 20 through June 4. The juried exhibition includes visual art in a variety of media, as well as wearable art and crafts, all of which are made from recycled bike parts or have a bike focus. Cleveland Bicycle Week is May 16-22, 2011 culminating in Bike-to-Work Day and the Pedaling Art opening reception on Friday, May 20. 

The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op (OCBC) will provide free, secure bicycle valet parking for those who opt to ride. A portion of Pedaling Art sales will be donated to the OCBC to help support their mission to promote cycling in Greater Cleveland. The opening night will also feature stationary bike racing presented by Great Lakes Gold Sprints. In a break from Wall Eye tradition, Pedaling Art will be open for two consecutive weekends with bicycle films showing on the afternoons of Saturday, May 21, Sunday, May 22, and Saturday, May 28.

The 2011 Ohio Independent Film Festival 5.18, 5.19

The Ohio Independent Film Festival returns to the Beachland Ballroom, shining a light on small, independent filmmakers and screenwriters; encouraging emerging media artists; and advocating the freedom of expression. They'll be showing films here at the Beachland Ballroom from May 18 and 19th. Films from the USA unless otherwise noted. On May 18th, a series of short films will be screened starting at 7 pm: The Way It's Played, Casualties, The Game, If You Listen, Touch, South Korean film GU YEO-RUM-EUI BA-DA, Bitch, Get Out Of the Bathroom, Good Boy (UK), and The Philosopher (France). At 9:30 pm, they'll show Land of the Free, and feature film Close-Up. Over the course of the next few days, films will be screened at the Beachland and at nearby Arts Collinwood. Nicolas Weis' fellow 'Dreamworks'er, Margaret Wuller, has organized an online charity event to build a school in Ghana. The Akron Art Museum exclusive: M.C. Escher

This week, the Akron Art Museum offers an exclusive opportunity to survey M.C. Escher's four-decade career. Impossible Realities showcases 130 of the artist's finest works, starting with his early book plates, moving on to landscapes, tessellations, and impossible worlds, and concluding with his final 1969 print, "Snakes." Featured are such instantly recognizable works as "Drawing Hands," as well as the extremely rare lithographic stone used for the making of "Flatworms." The exhibition comes from the Herakleidon Museum in Athens, Greece, which houses one of the world's largest collections of Escher's work; Akron is one of only two U.S. venues to host it. After the  February 11 opening the exhibit runs through May 29. Also featured:Unfolding Space, a show by Cleveland artist Sarah Kabot, whose work is inspired by Escher. February 12 through June 11. Walk All Over Waterloo: Valentine's Day Edition

Walk All Over Waterloo Weekend, Valentine’s Day Edition is this Friday through Sunday, February 11–13. Whether you plan to spend the weekend before Valentine’s Day celebrating with your sweetheart or mocking the whole affair, the Waterloo Arts District has you covered, with great concerts, dining, shopping, and art.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE: The WATERLOO ALLEY CAT PROJECT FUNDRAISER. Help the Waterloo Alley Cat Project feed, shelter, spay/neuter, and vaccinate local feral cats! Clay is an incredibly versatile material, encompassing a rich history and a diverse rang of applications. In this class, venture beyond the usual pinching, coiling and slab-building by learning new techniques with which to manipulate clay. Beginners will develop strong fundamentals; advanced students will unlock fresh creative possibilities.
