The Skull and The Skeleton
Curated by Mary Urbas
November 1st– 23rd, 2013
Opening Artist Reception, Costume Party and Boneyard Market:
Friday, November 1st, 2013, 6PM–MID
The Boneyard Market will feature artists creating skull and skeleton themed items at a lower price point.
In addition to the exhibition in the gallery, we're doing a Pop-Up show of carved Jack-O-Lanterns, for all to enjoy! Bring in your artistically carved pumpkins, and also please bring candles... let's make it festive! All are welcome to join us to meet the artists, listen to live music and to enjoy light refreshments. Guests are encouraged to come in costume or in the nude!
The Gallery will be open on Saturday, November 2nd from 11AM–8PM for Dia de los Muertos. This event is free and open to the public.
“It’s about embracing life and death and our mortality,” said Mary Urbas, exhibit curator, and life-long collector of skull art and artifacts. “Being raised Roman Catholic, the rebellious side in me was drawn to skulls for the initial shock value.” Selections from Urbas’ personal skull folkart and art collection will be among the exhibition pieces.
