Brews + Prose at Market Garden 2.7, 7PM

Tuesday, February 7, at 7PM Brews + Prose partners with the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) program to present Amy Gustineauthor of the "devastating, funny, and astonishingly frank" (Karen Russell) short story collection, You Should Pity Us Instead. Joining Amy are Brandon North and Rebecca Spagnuolo, two talented and promising graduate student writers from the NEOMFA program. More about all of our authors below.

Amy Gustine is the author of the widely praised story collection You Should Pity Us Instead, which received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly, Kirkus and Booklist. The New York Times Book Review called her collection an "affecting and wide-ranging debut” and the book appeared on many “best of” lists, including the San Francisco Chronicle’s “Best of 2016: 100 Recommended Books.” Her work received special mention in the Pushcart Prize anthology and she was awarded an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award for 2016. Gustine is from Toledo, Ohio.

Brandon North is a poetry candidate in the NEOMFA program, through which he works for the Cleveland State Poetry Center. A native of Dayton, Ohio, he also has roots in the Cumberland Gap area, where both of his grandfathers were coal miners and even worked together for a time. His work has recently appeared in decomP and the UnLost Journal, and he is currently working on poems that leave holes for many types of people to mine.

Rebecca Spagnuolo is a fiction student at the NEOMFA.

As always, those of you who would like to eat before the event should make reservations or arrive early--we'll be setting up shop in the Ohio City Room at Market Garden Brewery. Keep in mind that Amit's books will be for sale at the event courtesy of Mac's Backs. Meanwhile, we continue to offer what we think is the best literary deal in town: buy a book and get a free beer.
