The Pink Eye Book of Collage Release Party! 4.30

Pink Eye is back messing with the Cleveland art scene...and has collected over 150 works of art for this show—should be one of the most memorable art exhibitions of this year in Cleveland.

Come on out to Wall Eye Gallery (Detroit and W. 54th) and join the Pink Eyes in celebration of their move from magazines to limited edition art books. Their first book release, The Pink Eye Book of Collage, features over 50 local artists’ collages in full glossy color. The opening will exhibit the works selected for the book (plus many more) as part of a large (over 150 pieces) salon styled show. Many well known local artists will be taking part in this 'exhibition of awesomeness', a must see for any fan of collage art. So come early – art will be sold affordably on a “grab and go” basis, and leave late – there will be live psyche-rock music provided by Freedom and Umm Qasr. The fun doesn’t stop there…the after party will be moving two blocks down the street to the Happy Dog (5801 Detroit Avenue) for more live sonic debauchery supplied by Hot Cha Cha, Film Strip and Beardo Bandini.

Exhibition takes place from 6PM—11PM Friday April 30th

MorrisonDance at DanceWorks 4.15—4.18

MorrisonDance will take you through several mysterious worlds: real, interpreted, imagined, ancient and modern. Mysterious will feature dances celebrating the vibrancy of the Etruscans, the heart and soul of Roma dancing, the quirky possibilities of imagined cone creatures, and the uninhibited passion of communicating through movement.

Mysterious will include a new collaboration between Artistic Director Sarah Morrison and husband and internationally collected artist, Scott Radke. Featuring cone-headed characters adorning tutus this dance will unfold in a fashion that only Radke's world can provoke. Additionally, there will be an expansion of Morrison's Mi Larthia, originally presented in Castiglioncello, Italy and inspired by travels through Etruria following the descriptions of D.H. Lawrence. A presentation of the solo work Uninhibited will be presented by guest artist Jennifer Sandoval who recently returned to the area from Chicago. Finally, the concert will include energetic dances featuring the Roma culture shared by Turkish guest artist Sevi Bayraktar whose appearance has been supported through a residency with Young Audiences and funded by the Cleveland Foundation Fusion Project.

Chuck Runs Boston Marathon for a Cause 4.19

Hi all, Jack St. John's brother-in-law, Chuck is running the Boston Marathon on April 19, 2010 raising funds for Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Ohio.

"I will be running in the upcoming 114th Boston Marathon, and have decided to take advantage of this opportunity to raise funds for the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Ohio. Prader-Willi Syndrome occurs in 1 ot of every 15,000 births, and is the most commonly known genetic cause for obesity in children. The main characteristic of the syndrome is hyperphagia, or an extreme, constant feeling of hunger that is never satisfied. To date there are no medications, appetite suppressants, or surgeries that have been safe or successful in 'treating' hyperphagia in children with PWS.

The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of Ohio began in 1986, and in February of 1987 the organization became the 21st chapter under PWSA(USA). The Ohio organization is managed by a board of volunteers, and is dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of Prader-Willi Syndrome. Research in this area continues, and is supported by the fundraising such as this, and by those who donate their efforts!

This secure website makes it very efficient and easy to support PWSA of Ohio through on-line donations. If, however, you would rather send a check, that works too (PWSA of Ohio, 4075 W. 226th, Fairwiew Park, OH 44126.) Any amount sent in that way will be added to this page. Please make checks out to "PWSA of Ohio".

I am excited to be able to run Boston for such a great cause. Thanks for your support in helping me reach this goal!"

Chuck

Accident (Yi Ngoi)
HONG KONG, CHINA | Directed by Soi Cheang | Running time: 89 minutes
Hong Kong director Soi Cheang attained cult status with his nightmarish sagas “Dog Bite Dog” and “Shamo.” His latest thriller breaks through the conventional genre, with no guns or car chases despite its elaborate action sequences. Instead, ACCIDENT is a psychological brain-twister that plumbs the depths of a killer’s soul. The Brain is a self-styled “accident choreographer” who leads a band of cerebral hit men in taking out targets in well-crafted “accidents” that are actually perfectly staged acts of crime.

Queen To Play (Joueuse)
High atop the rugged mountains of Corsica, Hélène pedals her bike to work. She's a chambermaid at a luxury hotel, living a humdrum working-class life. Hélène came to Corsica years ago for her husband, who works in the boatyards. Serious and conscientious about her work, she has no particular desire to change things. Then one day she glimpses a romantic couple playing an impassioned game of chess on the balcony of a room she's cleaning. Seized with a vague longing, Hélène purchases an electronic chess game for her husband, hoping the game might help them rekindle an old flame.

Please, Please Me! (Fais-Moi Plaisir!)
What’s a man got to do to have a little sex? A lot apparently, and sometimes that doesn’t even guarantee the desired end result. First, he must fetch coffee. Next, when the neighbor knocks, the door must be answered. Then, a woman calls. And, with the call, the story unfolds. A comedy of errors, part Buster Keaton/part Woody Allen, follows. A soundtrack that rings of the Pink Panther underscores the absurdity. It’s hard to believe that a single night can hold so much adventure and mishap. PLEASE, PLEASE ME! offers a farcical look at modern infidelity. (In French with subtitles)

Bad Day to Go Fishing (Mal Dia Para Pescar)
It’s 1961 and there are strangers in the sleepy town of Santa Maria. There is Orsini, a cheap impresario and self-appointed Italian prince, and there is a former German wrestling champion named Jacob van Oppen. The two Europeans travel around fleecing local residents by rigging wrestling matches between paid-off local contenders and the champ. But they haven’t reckoned with the bad luck that meets them in Santa Maria. Van Oppen is suffering from an existential crisis. He drinks and has sudden fits, and his strength has long since started to fail him. Not only that, the designated challenger boozes himself sick and can’t compete. And there’s a sharp local newspaper editor who’s closing in on the scam. Nerves fry hotter than an egg on the pavement in the noon-day sun, and it looks like the boys might just have enough time to get out of town before the showdown. Or do they? A deliciously vintage movie in the cartoonish, deadpan style of the Coen brothers, BAD DAY TO GO FISHING features a shady performance by Scottish-Spanish actor Gary Piquer, a kind of Latin Harvey Keitel. The Exhibition (La Muestra)
Antonio, 80-years-old and once a highly regarded sculptor, is now spending too much time alone in his studio… or so his wife Susana thinks. He has given up exhibiting and passes most of his days puttering, reliving his past fame. However, after receiving a phone call from a friend inviting Antonio and Susana to his opening, Antonio begins to wonder about the possibility of exhibiting again. He commences making the necessary calls and glad-handing the local dealers, exhausting his list of contacts. Gently but pointedly he is told by another artist friend, “Your time was another time.” This news sends him into a depression that further accentuates what Antonio believes to be his artistic inadequacies. Meanwhile, Susana watches in alarm and decides she must take action. Enlisting the help of their two sons (and some especially effective facilitation from young granddaughter Bianca), Susana leads a behind-the-scenes crusade to make Antonio an exhibition. Stubbornness runs in the family and “no” is not an acceptable answer. Will their hard work pay off and will Antonio finally get his much-needed boost of THE EXHIBITION? (In Spanish with subtitles)

Wall Eye Gallery: Undomesticated 3.19 6-11PM

Undomesticated
March 19- April 11, 2010
Curated by Stephanie Lipscomb and Linda Ayala

Artists Reception
Friday, March 19, 6-11PM

In celebration of Women’s History Month and National Craft Month, Undomesticated shares the work of 10 artists who knit, sew, weave, embroider, bead, and crochet. These crafts were long considered to be traditional, domestic, and “women’s work” that many women were expected to learn. For generations these beautiful techniques were passed down with the main intent of taking care of family and filling a home. We knitted and sewed items to clothe our families. We wove, embroidered, and crocheted to fill our homes with intricacy and love. In Undomesticated, we honor this heritage through modern reinterpretations of this necessity-driven set of skills as a means of artistic expression. Featuring the art of Linda Ayala, Rebecca Cross, Emily Felderman, Christy Gray, Stephanie Lipscomb, Christine Mauersberger, Shannon Okey, Sara Rabinowitz, Georgianne Wanous, and Jennifer Whitten.
