Dr. Sketchy at Lava Lounge 9.23

The first ever Cleveland Dr. Sketchy was a lot of fun. They had a nice crowd and a fun model; Danielle, a Betty Page look-a-like with great outfits (although Larry and I could do without the gas mask on the last pose). The MHG were represented by myself, Larry, Susan and Ken Gross and Ken Talley. Besides The Literary Cafe's (9PM-Mid. Fridays) Tim Herron, the rest of the group seemed to be made up of CIA grads. They're doing a Halloween version next month...

Save the Date: Marie's Opening 9.12.08

Hey everyone,

I'm still in the process of designing the flyer for a 6 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, opening reception for my first local photography exhibition - so save the date if you are going to be in Boston. Most of the work will be new installations (larger pieces) from 35 mm color slides and negatives taken while traveling in the U.S., France, Italy, Sicily and Malta from 2005 to 2008. (And perhaps a couple new digital multiple, long exposures....)

The reception is going to be held at The Multicultural Exchange Center with a live musical performance by a local favorite, The Tony Gallo Group (www.tonygallo.com/), in the Atlantic Works Building, at 80 Border Street in East Boston. You can find directions by going to the website below.

www.80borderstreet.org/

There will be music, poetry, and other performance events going on every week the show will be up - which is the entire month of September. So if you miss the opening there will plenty of opportunities to see the show during open hours or
other performances.

Hope to see you!

Hot Club of Detroit @Nighttown Sat & Sun

Hot Club of Detroit
CD release party featuring music from their brand new CD "Night Town"
Saturday & Sunday, August 16 & 17
Saturday 8 PM, Sunday 7 PM
$20

Back in 1930s Paris, the Hot Club de France kept music fans jumping and dance floors filled to their intricate and lively brand of gypsy jazz. In 21st century Detroit, the fans are jumpin' and the dance floors are filled, this time to the sound of the Hot Club of Detroit, an electrifying and visionary ensemble that takes the traditions pioneered by Django Reinhardt and company and spins them in a way that's both reverent and refreshingly contemporary.

As guitarist and group leader Evan Perri explains, "We want to spread the music and keep the gypsy spirit alive. But we're from Detroit. Our influences come from stuff we grew up listening to here in Detroit. We just want to make music that's true to the spirit of Django but that's also true to ourselves."

Currently The Hot Club of Detroit is touring behind their brand new Mack Avenue records CD "Night Town" which features the new composition "Night Town" by Evan Perri. The composition and album title were inspired by the Hot Club's past successful engagements at Nighttown. The record was recorded in a studio right here in Cleveland. Nighttown is proud to be playing an integral role in the ascent of this great new group.

Don't miss the Hot Club of Detroit when the debut music from their brand new CD "Nighttown" live at the very club that inspired the name of the CD on Saturday and Sunday, August 16th and 17th.
