Doug Wood opens for Eclectica @Cain Park 7.17

From CoolCleveland.com: It's extraordinarily funky, an intense hybrid of sounds and influence and a beast in terms of virtuosity. It's a band called Eclectica — talk about truth in advertising! — and the band's Streaming Video Soul is flexibly adventurous at the absolute least. Featuring Julliard alum/ violin "child prodigy" Tracy Silverman and 5–time Grammy Award winning drummer Roy "Futureman" Wooten (of Bela Fleck & The Flecktones), Eclectica buoys their tunes with fat grooves, sing-along choruses and incredibly inventive jams. Make no mistake: the trio has a wide appeal; and yet their sound is likely to draw in fans of Dave Matthews Band just as easily as it does more sophisticated alt-jazz types who like Medeski Martin & Wood.
Eclectica performs at Cain Park this Friday, July 17 at 8PM with special guests Doug Wood and Darren Frate from Watts Gnu! Hear samples of Eclectica's work here.

Walk+Roll is a tiny organization trying to do big things and relies on health and wellness organizations, senior centers, youth groups, theatre organizations, schools, artists, musicians, churches, clubs and other community organizations to spread the word and to bring their talents to Walk+Roll events.

---------------

Washington Post Interview: 'Twitter Bird' Artist Simon Oxley

Japan-based illustrator Simon Oxley is not a cartoonist, but rather a brilliant artist with a truly comic sense of humor. He has created thousands of whimsical illustrations, yet most of the world over, there is a particular one that is iconic to millions. (And for which, we must note, he was paid a grand sum of less than seven bucks.) The image? The Twitter bird.

Oxley, who grew up in England, has created countless bright, engaging images for the stock-library company iStockPhoto, using Adobe Illustrator and "vector-based" images. Oxley, who lives with his wife, Noriko, and family in Fukuoka, recently discussed his work in far more than 140 characters: voices.washingtonpost.com/comic
