AAWR Show: Pearls of Cleveland 1.15–2.28

The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve presents the Pearls of Cleveland, a memorial show for archived artist Moses Pearl, also featuring works from his children Stuart Pearl and Sharlene Pearl Green. The Pearls of Cleveland will have an Opening Reception on Thursday, January 15th at 5:30PM and will run until Saturday, February 28th.

The exhibition revolves around the drawings, watercolors and oil paintings Moses made throughout his life and career as an artist and teacher. The show also focuses on his influence on the art of his children Sharlene and Stuart.

Scape Opening Reception 1.23 5–8PM

Scape, a collection of landscape-related works by established artists Eileen Dorsey, Hilary Gent, Dott Schneider, Jack St. John, and Dawn Tekler will have its Opening Reception on Friday, January 23rd 5–8PM.

Grab yer sketchbooks and hide the kids as we settle into a very Black Christmas back at Dr. Sketchy Cleveland's new west-side friendly location, Market Avenue Wine Bar, across from Great Lakes BreweryNOTE: Market Avenue Wine Bar is open at 4PM so feel free to come early, find parking and have a drink!

Museum of Art Holiday CircleFest 12.7, 1–5:30PM

Inspired by centuries-old, cross-cultural traditions of ceremonial lighting displays, the Winter Lights Lantern Festival features lantern displays inside the Cleveland Museum of Art and Wade Oval's Environment of Lights installation. Holiday CircleFest is a FREE annual Circle-wide celebration presented by University Circle Inc. The museum offers an array of activities and entertainment, including workshops for making simple lanterns for the procession. The day culminates in a procession through the Environment of Lights led by illuminated dancers and giant puppets.

annual University Circle Inc. Holiday CircleFest. The museum joins two dozen neighboring institutions for this annual community open house.

Follow the procession back to the atrium.

The Big Lebowski @ The Cedar Lee 12.6 9:30 & MID

Brews + Prose at Market Garden Brewery 12.2, 7PM

Tuesday, December 2, at 7PM Brews + Prose joins forces with the NEOMFA program in creative writing to present Caryl Pagel, the new director of the Cleveland State University Poetry Center, with NEOMFA graduate student writers Couri Johnson and Natasha Rodriguez-Carroll. We hope to see you at Market Garden Brewery to celebrate our last reading of 2014, and also to hear some more about plans for next year.

More about this month's authors: 

Caryl Pagel is the author of two collections of poetry: Twice Told and Experiments I Should Like Tried At My Own Death. Her poems and essays have appeared in AGNI, Denver Quarterly, The Iowa Review, Jacket2, and The Mississippi Review, among other journals, and she is currently at work on a collection of essays. Caryl is the co-founder and editor of Rescue Press, a poetry editor at jubilat, and the Director of the Cleveland State University Poetry Center.

Couri Johnson is a Youngstown native currently in her last year of the NeoMFA. Through her fiction she typically sets out to use fantastic or supernatural elements to explore social issues. She's fond of ghosts, and monsters, and reimaginings. She has had work published in Deimos eZine, Aphelion and Decades Review, among others.

Natasha L. Rodriguez-Carroll is a graduate student in the NEOMFA consortium and a former Wick Poetry Center Fellow. She has a BA in Spanish from Kent State University. Her poems have appeared in Jenny, Black Feminist Manifesto, Luna Negra, and the Speak Peace Traveling Exhibit. Natasha lives in Kent, Ohio, with her husband and daughter.
