All That Matters to Me At the Screw Factory 6.23

An increasingly impressive creative community is coalescing in Lakewood's Lake Erie Building, the former Templar Auto Building now affectionately known as The Screw Factory.

The facility solidifies its vitality as a cultural venue this weekend with its second annual All That Matters to Me exhibition. The one-night expo is a showcase of works that don't fit into usual galleries — literally and figuratively.

Some 50,000 square feet of the Screw Factory's open floors have been given over to the show (so wear your spongiest walking shoes). The space, and the "no pressure" attitude towards selling affords artists the chance to showcase media that have no reliable display space around town.

Experimental filmmaker Bug Davidson, whose past works have explored 21st-century relationships through contrasts of queer identity and regimented expectations, presents a video installation. Joe Bartram's sculpture tableaus create Dali-like scenes by populating a stage with ambiguous machines, suspended rubble, and animal forms. Emily Sullivan's evocative installations juxtapose plant-like entities with walls of mesh.

Some thirty other performances, avant-garde films, and situated constructs flit up to the rafters and wind through the stairwells. See them here, because nowhere else can hold them.

All That Matters to Me will be held one night only, Saturday, June 23rd, from 7–10PM at the Lake Erie Building, 13000 Athens Ave, Lakewood. Go to allthatmattersshow.com or screwfactoryartists.com.

Two Part Invention — An Evening with Tracy Silverman and Philip Aaberg @Cain Park 6.22

Lauded by the BBC as “the greatest living exponent of the electric violin,” Tracy Silverman’s groundbreaking six-string electric violin work has influenced an entire generation of string players.

Grammy- and Emmy-nominated pianist/ composer Philip Aaberg writes music that translates Montana’s farms, ranches, and native vultures into music. Classically trained, Aaberg celebrates many traditions and weaves strains of blues and bluegrass as well as rock and new music throughout his melodic tapestries.

Tracy and Philip together perform pieces from their "Improvisations on Bach" CD, along with original works and unique arrangements of contemporary tunes. Their performances are full of approachable good humor and break all the pretenses of classical conventions, with jazz, pop and world influences accenting the beauty, elegance, and soulfulness of classical masterpieces.

Drink And Draw Social Club Cleveland Debuts 6.21

Join Randy Crider and others from the Rust Belt Monster Collective and Dr. Sketchy as they launch Drink And Draw Social Club Cleveland tonight at 7PM at Tremont's TapHouse.

This from Randy:

'It officially begins tonight! This is our radioactive spider bite, our cosmic rays, our chance to strengthen our artistic steel to the might of adamantium.'
'The rules our simple. Bring some drawing supplies, buy some drinks, and make some of the bitchinest art this side of the Cuyahoga. Only other thing, don't bring projects you've already started, it's a social club after all, and it's a perfect chance to draw some nonsense.

We're doing it at the taphouse this time, so there's lots of beers, lots of food, and some happenin drawings on the tables to boot. I've got the back tables reserved, so tell your pals, and make them happy they invited us.'

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson @ Beck Center

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson is an audacious, irreverent rock musical which was a hit off-Broadway, and paints the picture with modern references, including the presence of electronics (cell phones, Ipads, head sets), lots of hard rock music, imaginative if not always accurate historical references, and lots of swearing, blood and guts.

Larry Goodpaster and Dennis Yurich’s musical direction is the foundation on which the production is built. The band, Yurich, Ingrid Lang and Jason Giaco, supported by various cast members, is musically dynamic.
