Danielle Muad'Dib featured in Plain Dealer Arts today

CONGRATS to Danielle 'Squeal' Muad'Dib, one of our favorite models, on her feature in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer. The article quotes her extensively and says: 'Squeal, who performs Friday nights at Luxe, a restaurant and bar on Cleveland's West Side, has been at the forefront of Cleveland's burlesque revival.' Squeal is Danielles new stage name, along with Jason Tilk's 'Pinch'. We should set aside a Friday night to go see their new show.

A FREE special bi-lingual program, Tradition and Innovation in Mayan Cultural Survival. Mayan cultural practices have survived for over two millennia, in spite of environmental collapse, conquest, disease, poverty, and civil war. Using examples from Classic architecture, mythology and ethnopoetics, ritual practice, and various technologies of daily life, we examine the system of Mayan values that has supported strategies of cultural maintenance that are still observed today in Mayan communities.

Presented by Dr. Laura Martin. Dr. Martin holds a doctorate in linguistics from the University of Florida, and specializes in Mayan languages, particularly Mocho, a language spoken today by only a few Mayans in Chiapas, Mexico. Her scholarship and research centers around Central American Spanish dialectology, discourse analysis, language pedagogy, and linguistic anthropology. She is the author of several books and dozens of articles and reviews.

MaineTrailFinder.com

Check it out! The featured trail, Angel Falls, at Maine Trail Finder is the trail that Ken Gross took me and my brother on our recent Fourth of July trip to Maine. Thanks, Ken and Susan, for a great time!—Juan
The company that Ken works for is responsible for the web site, by the way, and our hike is the one where Ken mapped out the coordinates.

Dr. Sketchy Cleveland presents Sabrina Chap 7.21 @7PM

Sabrina Chap's got classical piano skills, the ballad lyrics of Tom Waits, the onstage antics of Phyllis Diller and the voice of a whiskey angel. Her sets are a ragtime stompin' good time, full of laughs, heartbreaks, and just plain good songwriting.

Since moving to New York, she has performed at a variety of musical venues, such as Rockwood Music Hall, Bar 169, Vivaldi Café, Sidewalk Café and Bar 4. She has done a solo tour of England, Scotland and Germany, as well as completing a tour through Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium with Argentinian songwriter, Agustina Mancinelli. Currently, she’s performing in Berlin in anticipation of her debut album, “Oompa!” Note the special location for this Dr. Sketchy.
