15th Annual Cinema at the Square Starts 8.2

This summer the Palace Theatre’s famous screen (a 20 foot-high by 47 foot-wide super Hurly-Glo projection screen) will feature 13 film favorites as The Fifteenth Annual Cinema at the Square Series returns to the Palace Theatre at PlayhouseSquare August 2–19.

Moviegoers will be treated to pre-show organ recitals on a restored 1927 Kimball organ that contains 17 sets of pipes, a xylophone, Glockenspiel, a complete set of drums and many cymbals. The organ, donated to PlayhouseSquare in 1975, was painstakingly restored by volunteers and is the perfect complement to your evening at Cinema at the Square!

All tickets for Cinema at the Square are only $5 each or save 50% on tickets when you purchase a FlixTIX pass, 6 vouchers for $15. Vouchers can be used in any combination and at any movie.

Drawing I offered @ Lakeland Community College 8.27

Kirtland's Lakeland Community College Fall Semester begins August 27th. On Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30–9:10PM Art Drawing I, a three credit hour class, is offered. Stressing observational drawing, experimentation with various media, how to plan and design a page, and a touch of perspective and figure drawing it's the foundation to all other drawing, painting and visual communication. The class is no larger than 15 people of all ages and backgrounds. It is a good place to start. Deb Steytler, adjunct faculty, has taught at Lakeland for over 12 years, and has the practice of figure and landscape drawing and painting. She looks forward to meeting you!

Holden Arboretum's Garden Series Tuesdays thru 8.14

Holden Arboretum's summer concert series returns, showcasing local musicians performing in their beautiful gardens, which feature more than 120,000 plants and flowers. Bring a blanket and a picnic supper and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Every Tuesday through August 14th, all concerts start at 6:30PM and are FREE and open to the public. In the event of rain, these concerts will be held in the Corning Visitor Center. For a complete schedule, visit the Holden Arboretum's website.

Dr. Sketchy: Youth and Three Beauties at CMA 7.20

Dr. Sketchy Cleveland celebrates Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties at this happy hour event. Check out the exhibition, then enjoy a cocktail as you try your hand at live life-drawing from Dr Sketchy Cleveland, with models and poses inspired by the exhibition. Music by Adam Ritenauer. Twenties dress-up optional but encouraged! Drinks and food will be available for purchase throughout the night. Starts 6:30PM sharp. 

The museum has asked that there be no charcoal at the event, so lets keep it to markers, pens, pencils, and possibly pastels.

Cleveland Museum of Art's Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties. This comprehensive exhibition examines American art from the end of the Great War to the Great Depression with a focus on the evolving concept of the human form. Adult admission is $15. The exhibit is open through September 16 at 11150 East Blvd.

10th Annual Taste of Tremont 7.15 Noon–8PM

Taste of Tremont is celebrating its 10th anniversary! A showcase event for the historic Tremont neighborhood, this year’s event is scheduled for Sunday July 15th from Noon until 8PM.

Last year, there were over over 20,000 visitors to the neighborhood. Taste has a regional draw with visitors from throughout Ohio and neighboring states. Over 50 restaurants, galleries, artists and other Tremont businesses participated, offering fine food, beer, wine and art along Professor Avenue, the commercial heart of the neighborhood.

Cain Park Arts Festival 7.13–7.15

For more than 30 years, the Cain Park Arts Festival has showcased work from artists from around the country. This year, the festival will feature more than 150 artists from as far away as California, New Mexico, Vermont and Georgia.

While the arts festival is FREE there will be a wine tasting Friday night from 6–7:15PM that costs $10. NOTE: because of limited space and crowded pathways, no courtesy vehicles will be in operation during the Arts Festival. No pets, bicycles, rollerblades or skateboards will be admitted.
