Hot Djang @ Lake View Cemetery 8.9, 4PM

Gypsy jazz, a European version of American jazz developed and popularized in the 1930s by jazz legends, violinist Stephane Grappelli and guitarist Django Reinhardt, is increasing in popularity these days.

Now a quartet of seasoned Cleveland musicians have come together as Hot Djang to play the style along with other early forms of jazz. It features guitarist Kevin Richards, well known in Cleveland music circles for founding the Fairmount School of Music and Roots of American Music; guitarist Brad Smedley, who has played in various roots-music ensembles; Kent State music professor Bryan Thomas on upright bass; and violinist Reed Simon, who’s been active in Cleveland’s jazz scene for more than 30 years.

The group will play a free concert Sunday, August 9th from 4–6PM, on the lawn of the Garfield Memorial in Lake View Cemetery as part of its summer concert series.
