New this year is our Village Treasure Trek – a scavenger hunt for all ages. Join a group or explore Broadway Slavic Village on your own while experiencing some of its unique businesses and neighborhood landmarks. For each place you visit, you receive a raffle ticket that is redeemable for one of many free prizes. The Village Treasure Trek begins at noon and lasts until 2PM, starting and ending at Osmond Court (off of E65 St, south of Broadway Ave and north of St Stanislaus Church).

After the Walk+Roll street activities end around 4PM, join neighbors at Osmond Court for a community concert sponsored by Councilman Anthony Brancatelli. Bring your chair or blanket, play some games, and enjoy live music with your friends and neighbors.

Feast of the Assumption begins Sat., 8.13, 3:30—11PM

Cleveland's Feast of the Assumption begins Saturday, August 13th from 3:30PM to 11PM. Held in the city's Little Italy neighborhood, it is a four-day street fair that celebrates the Catholic Day of Assumption (August 15), when the Virgin Mary died and assumed her place beside Jesus. The Feast is a fun-filled Italian street party with rides, food, live music, a procession, and lots of fun.

RED DOT Project at PNC SmartHome 8.17

RED DOT Project is currently featured in the PNC SmartHome located on the campus of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. All of the artwork in the home was created by artists who incorporate the principles of sustainability in their artwork. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History and RED DOT Project will present a tour of the environmentally friendly artwork throughout the PNC SmartHome Cleveland exhibit on the grounds of the Museum. The hour-long art tour will begin at 7PM on Wednesday, August 17. Tickets are $11 and include general admission to the Museum. The Deep Blues Festival was started in 2007 outside of Minneapolis by Chris Johnson, a fan of dirty blues based and influenced music of all kinds. He based its name on a term coined by the late, great musicologist Robert Palmer, who used the phrase “Deep Blues” to describe the gritty, artful sound of music rooted in the Mississippi Delta and hill country — both electric and acoustic blues that bridges the traditional and the modern. We are putting a second stage in the ballroom so it will non-stop music all night.

Bob Peck's In Orbit now at the Lava Lounge

Pedaling Art @ Wall Eye Gallery 5.20 6—10PM

Wall Eye Gallery presents Pedaling Art, a celebration of bicycle culture through art and design, May 20 through June 4. The juried exhibition includes visual art in a variety of media, as well as wearable art and crafts, all of which are made from recycled bike parts or have a bike focus. Cleveland Bicycle Week is May 16-22, 2011 culminating in Bike-to-Work Day and the Pedaling Art opening reception on Friday, May 20. 

The Ohio City Bicycle Co-op (OCBC) will provide free, secure bicycle valet parking for those who opt to ride. A portion of Pedaling Art sales will be donated to the OCBC to help support their mission to promote cycling in Greater Cleveland. The opening night will also feature stationary bike racing presented by Great Lakes Gold Sprints. In a break from Wall Eye tradition, Pedaling Art will be open for two consecutive weekends with bicycle films showing on the afternoons of Saturday, May 21, Sunday, May 22, and Saturday, May 28.

The 2011 Ohio Independent Film Festival 5.18, 5.19

The Ohio Independent Film Festival returns to the Beachland Ballroom, shining a light on small, independent filmmakers and screenwriters; encouraging emerging media artists; and advocating the freedom of expression. They'll be showing films here at the Beachland Ballroom from May 18 and 19th. Films from the USA unless otherwise noted. On May 18th, a series of short films will be screened starting at 7 pm: The Way It's Played, Casualties, The Game, If You Listen, Touch, South Korean film GU YEO-RUM-EUI BA-DA, Bitch, Get Out Of the Bathroom, Good Boy (UK), and The Philosopher (France). Dr. Sketchy’s Anti Art School is back at The Beachland Ballroom with a new model and a 'kick-ass' theme. The new model for your drawing pleasures is Janet Jay. Theme will be: celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Video Game. With three rounds of poses; a warm up round of one and two-minute poses, some five and ten-minute poses, breaks, and as many long poses (15-20 minute) as can fit along with prizes and contests. Dry mediums only; pen and ink, markers, crayons, pencils, graphite, pastels, etc.

The Film, 'Can't See You: The Loss and Preservation of Innocence', technically a music video, is 'more of an intense and emotional short film for Stealing Heather's second single, "Can't See You". Centered around a young girl's tragic life filled with domestic abuse, we watch her grow up in a world that tries to destroy her innocence, while her mental state begins to spiral out of control.'—Jushua Aaron

Dreamworks and Art Blocks for Ghana

Nicolas Weis' fellow 'Dreamworks'er, Margaret Wuller, has organized an online charity event to build a school in Ghana. Artists from Dreamworks, Pixar, Disney and Sony are painting wood blocks for this benefit. Here's her blog, the ebay auction site which began Saturday and Nicolas' contribution. Please check it out, it's for a great cause.

Clear your mind by throwing bowls and cups on the pottery wheel. If you are more advanced, try plates, lidded vessels or teapots.
