Since I graduated with my Master's Degree I've been sure to go the true artist's route and choose to do something that will inevitably NEVER make me any money, play in a band. I'm sure my father is very proud...

Anyway, I'll get my act together some day, and better the world, but in the meantime, I've been geeking out in a basement on the Lower East Side of Manhattan with some of my closest musical friends, in a band called Butane Variations. What has come of it are 2 records, both of which we think are pretty cool. Our full-length record, self titled "Butane Variations", hit stores today, and since our PR company sucks, (or we just couldn't pay them enough) we have had to take up the slack and do some shameless self-promotion. 10/01 - Balkan Beat Box 9pm $12 Balkan Beat Box is steeped with an intense lifetime of research into their own non-Western roots as well as other cultures. A quasi-circus event, BBB performs with a core of 6 musicians, collaborating with artists from Bulgaria, Morocco, Spain, Israel, and Turkey who draw on a variety of styles from around the world. Every event keeps the audience guessing what the next surprise will be. BBB makes connections that politics often keep separate. Jewish, Gypsy, Arabic, and American are united by hip hop beats and dancehall toasts. BBB’s musical hitch-hiking continues as they mix things up with dub and electronics, juxtaposed with ancient Moroccan and Mediterranean melodies. The band’s uncategorizable sound gives equal weight to soulful acoustic timbres and digital rhythms creating a uniquely organic sound with electronic elements.

2007 Sparx Gallery Hop

On Sat 9/15 and Sun 9/16 Cleveland's art community will be hopping as Sparx Gallery Hop, Ohio's largest art walk, celebrates its 5th anniversary. Tremont ArtWalk & Arts and Cultural Fest

The Fri 9/14 edition of the ArtWalk joins up with the Tremont Arts and Cultural Festival and Sparx in the City for a weekend of arts celebration across the City of Cleveland.

James Messina March opens with new paintings at Asterisk* Gallery, which also features the Postcard Diaries—prints by Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo. Mostly Men and an exhibition of photos by Larry Coleman is on display at Studio 11, in Lemko Hall, along with The Language Foundry—"a temple of poetics not for sale." Ebb, new prints by Pamela Dodds opens at Brandt Gallery, and "Exposure Cleveland" is closing at Kelly Randall. And then there's all the great food and entertainment.
