CMA's Chalk Festival Sat 9.17 and Sun 9.18

One of the great events of the arts calendar, Cleveland Museum of Art's Chalk Festival 2011 will be held Saturday, September 17th, from 11AM to 5PM and Sunday, September 18th, from noon to 5PM.

Preparatory workshops on chalk making and street painting will be held on
Wednesday, September 14th, from 6–8PM.

Children and adults enjoy this annual event where community members join professional artists in using the walkways around the Fine Arts Garden as a colorful canvas. Begun in 1990, our festival is a modern expression of a Renaissance tradition from 16th-century Italy, in which beggars copied paintings of the Madonna by Raphael and his contemporaries, using chalk on the plazas outside cathedrals. Watching the chalk artists and enjoying the entertainment is free. Featured Chalk Artists include: Mark Jenks, A. D. Peters, Jesse Rhinehart, Jan Stickney-Kleber, Rafael Valdivieso, and Robin VanLear with Robin Heinrich.
