Call for Artists: COSE and Guitar Mania 3.8.07

This from Abby Maier:

Hello everyone:

I am hoping you can assist us with an artistic challenge. COSE is a sponsor of the Guitar Mania project and we need your help and ideas.

We are looking for a unique guitar design that reflects the importance of small business to the local economy, and/or how business is key to the growth of this community. We are focused not only on Cleveland, but on the 8 county area of northeast Ohio, and would like a design that somehow celebrates the importance of business to our region. We would be thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the talents of a local artist who can help us express this concept.

After the public display period, the guitar will be displayed in the lobby of the new COSE offices in the renovated Higbee’s
Building in Public Square. There is only a short window for submissions- designs are due by next Thursday, March 8th, and the artist will then have a month to complete the guitar. Designs will still be submitted to the Guitar Mania jury for final approval. Artists will be paid an honorarium. Please download the attached form [email Juan for PDF] to apply (ignore the past deadline) and submit your design electronically to amaier@gcpartnership.com

or mail to:

Abby Maier
COSE/GCP
50 Public Square, Suite 200
Cleveland, OH 44113

Please email me with any questions or clarification on the theme.
Thank you!
Abby

Strong Cabin II Feb. 9—11

An invite from Deb Steytler for Strong Cabin II February 9, 10, 11 Madison-Lake Metro Parks: "If you missed it in October, you can try again but let’s hope for some snow this February...we are going to hang out, play cards, walk in the woods, go to dinner at a winery, do some reading, tend a fire, eat pot luck, cook outside if it is above zero. A weekend in the country. It gets really dark out there. Cost? Well, if you are spending the night, kick in 20.00 per night. Bring snacks, but you CAN leave the premises and go into Madison for supplies. There are cute shops on the square and real grocery stores close by."

"If you want to come for a day or just one night, it is up to you. I will take possession Friday and we don’t have to leave until Monday morning if you want to stay that long. Let Deb know - first come first serve for the good beds. There are
two bedrooms with four beds (bunk) in each and two big futon sofas in the main living room. One small but clean lav, no shower. Kitchen too!"

Doug Wood, Best Guitarist?

From our good friend Doug Wood: "Hi Folks, I'm back from good ol' Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas, where I battled freezing rain, snow and challenging road conditions on my southwest tour (part of me wishes all states could handle the bad weather like they do here in Cleveland). I came home to realize I've been nominated for BEST GUITARIST by the Cleveland Free Times, and hope you'll help me put in an effort to win."

Please cast your vote for Doug at:
http://www.freetimes.com/music_awards_07
(Although they ask for alot of info, the Free Times does not spam or distribute your information... they only collect the info to verify that the ballot box is not being stuffed)
