Day of the Dead Parade Saturday 11.1 2—4PM

Celebrated first by the indigenous people of Mexico,the Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, is a festive holiday in which the living honor and celebrate the lives of dead loved ones. “The Day of the Dead is for everybody . . . to honor their ancestors,” said local artist Salvador Gonzalez. “It’s a new concept for the community here.”

When: Noon—8PM Saturday, 11.1.
Noon—6PM Sunday, 11.2


Where: The Orthodox Church, 6205 Detroit Avenue

Saturday schedule:

2:15PM Procession departs for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, West 70th street and Detroit Avenue.

2:45PM Procession arrives La Sagrada Familia Church, West 74th street and Detroit Avenue.

3:00PM Procession returns to Orthodox Church.

3:45PM Joya de Mexico mariachi band.

5:00PM Opening Ceremony w history talk by Hector Castellanos.

6:00PM Raices del Peru dance group and Mexclatina music group.
